“The Irving Dental Study Club was founded in 1967 by a group of local dentists, led by newly graduated orthodontist Dr. Jerry Wise. Recognizing the inconvenience of traveling to Dallas for dental meetings and continuing education, Dr. Wise questioned why such events couldn’t be held locally. In response, he and his colleagues established a local study group, aptly named the Irving Dental Study Club.

Within a few years, the club gained widespread participation, with the majority of practicing dentists in Irving becoming members.

In its early years, meetings were frequently held in the “19th hole” area of the Las Colinas Country Club—an informal lounge adjacent to the men's locker room. At the time, Las Colinas was the only country club in Irving, and many of the club's members were also members of the dental study club. Additionally, there were no female dentists practicing in Irving during that period. Since many dental offices closed on Tuesday afternoons, members often spent the afternoon playing golf before attending the evening meeting—right there in the locker room!

As the profession evolved and the first female dentists began practicing in Irving, the club respectfully relocated its meetings to a more inclusive space within the country club. Today, the Irving Dental Study Club continues to meet on Tuesday evenings, drawing dentists from Irving and surrounding suburbs to participate in continuing education and professional fellowship.
